Privacy Policy

• No accounts, no passwords and no payments.
• To play, you only give a first name or a nickname.
• We don't sell your data and we don't show ads.
• A game closes once nobody has had it open for 5 hours. We delete it 3 months later.
• If you sign up for news, we only use your email for that. Unsubscribe any time.

We keep what the game needs to work:

• the name you join with and your team's name (use a first name or a nickname, not your full name)
• what you do in the game: guesses, clues, answers, notes, votes, settings, scores and turns
• a random key saved in your browser, so you can rejoin after a refresh (we only keep a scrambled copy of it)
• when your device was last connected, so we can hand hosting on if the host drops out, and close games nobody is using

Everyone in your game sees your name and what you play. Anyone with the game's code or link can watch it, for example on a shared screen.

We keep your email address, the boxes you tick, your language, where you signed up and when. We only use it to send you Ziago updates and news that match your boxes, which we send with Brevo. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

If you send us a report or an idea, we keep:

• what you write, and your email address if you want a reply
• a picture of your screen, unless you untick it, and any screenshots or recordings you add. These can show other players' names and anything else on your screen, so check them before you send.
• details that help us find the problem: the page, game and turn, your browser, device and screen size, language and time zone, the app version, and what happened on that screen just before
• a copy of the game as it was at that moment

If Ziago asks how a game went, we keep your answer with the same details.

If something breaks on your screen, we keep a note of the error with the same details, even if you don't send us anything.

• Accounts, passwords or payment details.
• Advertising or tracking cookies.

Like any website, our hosting providers keep server logs, which include IP addresses, to keep Ziago secure and running.

We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics. It uses no cookies, keeps no IP addresses and can't follow you to other sites. We only see totals, like which pages were viewed, from which country and on what kind of device.

Ziago doesn't use cookies. It saves a few things in your browser's storage instead:

• your key for each game you join
• whether you've seen How to play and each celebration
• whether you've signed up for news or said no thanks

They stay on your device, and you can clear them in your browser settings at any time.

A few companies help us run Ziago. They only handle your data for us:

• Vercel hosts the website and counts visits
• Convex stores the games, sign-ups and feedback
• Brevo sends our news emails

Their servers can be outside South Africa, including in the United States and the European Union. We don't sell or rent your data, and we don't share it with advertisers. We only share it with anyone else when the law requires us to.

• Games: a game closes once nobody has had it open for 5 hours. We keep it 3 months after that, so we can look into problems people report, then delete it.
• Scores: we keep each finished game's score without names, to show how teams compare.
• Email sign-ups: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
• Feedback: 2 years. Pictures, recordings, game copies and error notes: 90 days.

You can ask what we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it or stop using it. Email contact@ziago.co. There are no accounts, so tell us the email address, or the game code and name you used, and we'll find it.

You can unsubscribe from our emails with the link in any of them.

If you're not happy with how we handle your data, you can complain to South Africa's Information Regulator, or to the data protection authority where you live.

Ziago is for groups of all ages, but it isn't meant for children to use on their own. If you're under 18, use Ziago with a parent's, guardian's or teacher's permission, and don't sign up for our emails.

Our older games at old.ziago.co run on a separate system, with their own privacy policy.
